What is KURZ 2D toner technology?
Metallic brilliance made digital
KURZ 2D toner technology brings metallic brilliance into the digital era. This UV-free embellishment process uses black toner or HP ElectroInk as the adhesive layer for metallic transfer foil application. With no need for dies or curing, it delivers flat, high-gloss results with precision and repeatability — even on sheet one.
Spot-on register accuracy every time
Black toner creates the adhesive base, then DIGITAL METAL® transfer foil bonds with heat and pressure before the CMYK overprint. This process ensures perfect alignment for crisp edges, intricate details, and rich overprints without drift.
From mock-up to mass run
KURZ 2D toner technology delivers brilliant, overprintable metallization with fast setup and no tooling making it perfect for mock-ups, short runs, and scaled production alike. From sheet one, expect razor-sharp detail, minimal waste, and standout results with ease.

How it works: 3 simple steps to brilliant metallic effects
Step 1: Toner pre-printing the design
The areas to be metallized are printed onto the substrate using toner or electro-ink forming the precise adhesive base for transfer foil application.
Step 2: Transfer metallization in perfect register
A metallic transfer foil is applied with heat and pressure to the pre-printed material. It bonds precisely to the toner or electro-ink areas, creating sharp, high-definition metallic effects — all in perfect register.
Step 3: Optional overprinting
Add vibrant CMYK or special colors on top of the metallic layer. Overprinting opens virtually endless design possibilities for customized, eye-catching print for maximum visual impact.
